Cowley College quality control nondestructive testing technician program offers you a short training time for a job that is in high demand. You will develop the knowledge and skills you need to perform sophisticated testing techniques that are required in many industries. Upon completion of this program, you will be prepared to develop, maintain, and enforce quality control programs. Prepares students to set up and calibrate equipment, interpret and evaluate results based upon nondestructive testing methods with respect to applicable codes, standards and specifications and prepares a person to be a non-destructive inspection technician and for ASNT certification examination.

Class Descriptions


NDT 3451 – Introduction to Nondestructive Testing (3)

This course is designed to acquaint students with the six major nondestructive evaluation disciplines: radiography, ultrasonics, eddy current, magnetic particle, liquid penetrant and visual inspection as well as provide students with an overview of less common Nondestructive Testing methods.

NDT 3452 – Visual Inspection (3)
This course is devised to introduce the student to forms of discontinuities in the manufacturing and service life of a part.  Students are provided with an understanding of how and why a specific Nondestructive Testing method is chosen and acquainted with visual inspection techniques and their correct use.  This course is designed to meet certain Nondestructive Testing Level II certification requirements.

NDT 3453 – Codes and Practices (3)
This course is designed to acquaint the student with federal and state codes and standards associated with the six disciplines involved with nondestructive evaluation—radiography, ultrasonics, eddy current, magnetic particle, liquid penetrant, and visual inspection—typically used in the manufacturing industry.  Students will develop procedure and acceptance requirements for a given inspection.

NDT 3455 – Magnetic Particle/Liquid Penetrant Testing (3)
This course is designed to give the student a complete introduction through hands-on experience in the magnetic particle and liquid penetrant methods within the field of nondestructive testing.  This course is designed to meet certain NDT level II requirements in accordance with A.S.N.T. SNT-TC-1A & NAS-410.

NDT 3456 – Radiation Safety (3)
This course is designed to give the student complete instruction in working safely with gamma and x-radiography.  The course meets requirements set forth by the NRC and the State of Kansas.

NDT 3461 – Ultrasonic Testing I (3)
This course is devised to give the student a complete introduction through hands-on experience in the ultrasonic method within the field of Nondestructive Testing.  The course is designed to meet certain NDT Level I requirements in accordance with A.S.N.T. snt-tc-1A & NAS-410.

NDT 3462 – Ultrasonic Testing II (3)
This course is a continuation of Ultrasonic Testing I with emphasis on advanced theory and practical skills required in the application of ultrasonic evaluation methods.  The course is designed to meet certain Nondestructive Testing Level II requirements in accordance with A.S.N.T. SNT-TC-1A & NAS-410.

NDT 3463 – Ultrasonic Testing III (3)
This course is devised to give the student advanced hands-on experience, with practical application in the ultrasonic method.  The course is designed to meet certain Nondestructive Testing requirements to prepare the student for a position in the field of ultrasonic inspection.

NDT 3464 – Radiographic Testing I (3)
This course is devised to give an introductory study of the processes of radiography.  It provides the in-depth study and hands-on experience needed to prepare the student for a position in the field of radiography.  The course is designed to meet certain NDT Level II requirements in accordance with A.S.N.T. SNT-TC-1A NAS-410.

NDT 3465 – Radiographic Testing II (3)
This course is devised to give a detailed study of the processes of radiography.  It provides the in-depth study and hands-on experience needed to prepare the student for a position in the field of radiography.  The course is designed to meet certain NDT Level II requirements in accordance with A.S.N.T. SNT-TC-1A NAS-410.

NDT 3466 – Radiographic Testing III (3)
This course is devised to provide advanced study of the processes of radiography.  It provides hands-on experience to prepare the student for a position in the field of radiography.

NDT 3467 – Eddy Current Testing I (3)
This course is devised to give the student a complete introduction through hands-on-experience in the Eddy Current method within the field of Nondestructive Testing.  The course is designed to meet certain NDT Level I requirements in accordance with A.S.N.T. SNT-TC-1A & NAS-410.

NDT 3468 – Eddy Current Testing II (3)
This course is a continuation of Introduction to Eddy Current Testing with emphasis on advanced theory and practical skills required in the application of Eddy Current evaluation methods.  The course is designed to meet certain NDT Level II requirements in accordance with A.S.N.T. SNT-TC-1A & NAS-410.

NDT 3469 – Advanced Nondestructive Testing Methods (3)
This course is designed to give the student an introduction to nondestructive methods used in manufacturing and service industries other than the basic methods previously studied.
